Below is a link to the DEC page to educate hunters wishing to use a crossbow to hunt big game in NY State.

  The information mentions that the crossbow may be used in the early
   bear season, as well as the regular and late muzzleloader seasons.
  · The early bear season begins September 17th this year.
  · HOWEVER, the September portion of the season is in the 2010 license year.
  · The crossbow may be used beginning in the 2011 license year, October 1st.
    The early part of October also overlaps the Archery season.
  · At the bottom of the DEC page there is a "certificate" that must be
    completed and carried by all hunters using a crossbow.
